RECEPTIVE LANGUAGE

We work with children to help develop the tools necessary to understand language in both the verbal and written form to support in:

  • Understanding “wh” and yes/no questions

  • Following directions-simple or complex, multistep directions and following classroom routines

  • Identifying concepts such big/small, under/over, next to, behind, in/on, wet/dry

  • Understanding language in context

  • Word knowledge/understanding new vocabulary

  • Understanding figurative language (language that uses words or expressions with a meaning that is different from the literal interpretation such as “it’s raining cats and dogs”)

  • Reading comprehension to answer questions about stories

  • Processing linguistic information
